The Albany State men and women’s basketball teams were defeated by the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes on Wednesday evening in the Storm Dome. It was the Golden Rams men second loss to the Hurricanes this season.
The women were defeated (78-41) by the Hurricanes. With the loss, the Golden Rams fell to (4-6) overall and (2-2) in the SIAC. The Hurricanes improved to (5-1) on the season.
After the first quarter, the Golden Rams fell behind (10-6). At the half, the Golden Rams trailed (25-18). The Golden Rams were outscored (26-16) in the third quarter and trailed (51-34) entering the fourth quarter. The Hurricanes continued their dominance in the final quarter as they once again outscored the Golden Rams (27-7).
The Golden Rams shot 21.6% from the field and 7.7% from the 3-point line in the game. The Golden Rams made (18-25) from the free throw line and finished with 35 rebounds.
Unique Miller led the Golden Rams with 7 points and 5 rebounds. The Hurricanes had three players to finish in double figures. Kayla Langley led the Hurricanes with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Jolicia Williams contributed with 16 points and 5 steals. Jacquelyn Levay contributed with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Golden Rams men were defeated (74-56) by the Hurricanes. With the loss, the Golden Rams men fell to (2-8) overall and (2-1) in the conference. The Georgia Southwestern improved to (5-2).
The Golden Rams trailed (38-33) at the half. Travis Baker and Malik Parker led the Golden Rams with 6 points each at the break. The Hurricanes outscored the Golden Rams (36-23) in the second half as they cruised to a (74-56) victory.
The Golden Rams shot 32.1% from the field and 35.7% from the 3-point line. The Golden Rams made 17-20 free throws in the game.
Travis Baker led the Golden Rams in scoring with 11 points. Baker was the lone Golden Ram in double figures. The Hurricanes had 4 players in double figures. Jordan Clark finished with 20 points. Jerroda Briscoe finished with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. Devon Higgs contributed with 13 points and Jarrett Adderton chipped in with 10 points for the Hurricanes.
